Bengaluru, June 25 -- The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has sought an explanation from the Karnataka government over alleged irregularities and possible misuse of funds in the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, one of the Congress government's flagship guarantee programmes, official sources said on Thursday.
The CAG is understood to have raised concerns during an audit of the scheme, which provides a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,000 to women heads of households. The audit reportedly flagged instances of funds being transferred to ineligible beneficiaries, payments made in the names of deceased persons and possible creation of duplicate beneficiary records.
