New Delhi, July 15 -- The union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS) with a budgetary outlay of Rs 62,500 crore, a new five-year programme aimed at expanding mobile phone production, increasing domestic value addition, strengthening supply chains and building globally competitive Indian mobile phone brands.
Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said the scheme would accelerate the next phase of India's electronics manufacturing growth and reinforce the country's position as a global mobile phone manufacturing hub.
