New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- The India Open's timing has come under scrutiny in recent years because of concerns over air pollution in the national capital.
Keeping those concerns in mind, the Badminton World Federation (BWF), while announcing its 2027-28 calendar earlier this year, moved the tournament by a few weeks to February 2-7 in 2027.
However, the change applies only to the 2027 edition for now, and there is no guarantee that the shift will be extended or that it will lead to a significant improvement in air quality.
BWF secretary general Thomas Lund said the governing body would assess the available data over the coming months before deciding on the tournament's future scheduling.
