Kolkata, Aug. 18 -- West Bengal is set to release a tiger in the Buxa Tiger Reserve on October 2, as part of a long-planned effort to revive the big-cat population in the North Bengal reserve, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said today.
The state is also planning a new aquarium near the Alipore Zoological Garden in Kolkata.
The first release is expected to be a tigress from Bihar's Valmiki Tiger Reserve, followed by more tigers, subject to the required clearances and preparations. The October 2 schedule was fixed after an earlier plan was deferred because of the monsoon and delays in relocating villages inside Buxa.
