Chennai, July 13 -- A British Airways return flight to London was cancelled after its front portion suffered a bird hit midair whenthe aircraft from London was preparing for landing at the Chennai airport on Monday.
The flight suffered the bird hit while it was hovering at a height of about 500 m from the ground.
The pilots managed to land the aircraft safely at 0330 hrs and all the 224 passengers and 12 crew members had a providential escape.
In view of the mandatory checks to be carried out and assess the damages caused by the bird hit, the return flight to London, scheduledto depart at 0530 hrs, with more than 200 passengers were cancelled and all of them were accommodated in nearby hotels.
