Chennai, April 23 -- An estimated 37.56 per cent of the total 5.73 crore electorate have cast their ballots in the first four hours till 11.00 AM as single phase polling to elect the 234-member 17th Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu, which began at 7.00 AM amid tight security, was progressing smoothly.

The elections thus far was by and large peaceful, with no major untoward incident reported from any part of the state, police said.

Election Commission of India officials said the turn out in the first four hours of polling till 11.00 AM was 37.56 per cent, far higher than the 26.29 per cent recorded in th 2021 polls.
