Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 3 -- Scientists at the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council-Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (BRIC-RGCB) are developing a new class of drugs aimed at preventing dormant cancer cells from reactivating, a breakthrough that could significantly reduce cancer recurrence and treatment resistance.
One of the major challenges in cancer treatment is the recurrence of the disease after apparently successful therapy. While most cancer cells are destroyed during treatment, a small population can survive in a dormant state and later reactivate as cancer stem cells (CSCs), often leading to a more aggressive relapse.
