Moradabad, March 1 -- Panic spread in a village in the Mainather police station area of Moradabad after the body of a 22-year-old woman was recovered from a 15-foot-deep well in Baghi Govardhanpur village, police said on Sunday.
Children playing near the field on Saturday first noticed the body and raised an alarm, prompting villagers to inform the police. Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police (Rural) and the Circle Officer of Bilari, arrived at the scene with forensic teams.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman may have been murdered elsewhere and her body dumped in the well to conceal evidence.
