Mumbai, July 17 -- In a significant move to curb recurring tree-fall incidents during the monsoon season, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to systematically remove dangerous and unstable exotic ornamental trees across the city.

In their place, the civic body will prioritize planting indigenous (native) tree species, which are physically and structurally better suited to Mumbai's environment.

Over the years, Mumbai has experienced a high frequency of tree collapses during heavy downpours and strong winds, often causing severe damage to vehicles, property, and posing a major threat to human lives.
