Bhubaneswar, June 5 -- The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will develop 10 Miyawaki forests and plant 60,000 saplings during the 2026-27 fiscal as part of its drive to enhance the city's green cover and improve environmental sustainability.
The announcement was made by Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra while inaugurating the first Miyawaki forest of the year at Hatiashuni on Friday.
Mahapatra said that more than 75,000 trees had been planted at 15 locations in Bhubaneswar over the last two years using the Miyawaki technique, and many of these plantations have already grown into dense urban forests.
