Mumbai, July 16 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) General Body on Thursday rejected the findings of an internal three-member inquiry committee that had exonerated civic departments in the fatal Chembur tree collapse and ordered a fresh probe into the incident that claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy.

The decision came amid strong objections from corporators cutting across party lines, who termed the committee's conclusions "unacceptable" and demanded a comprehensive investigation to fix responsibility for the June 30 tragedy.
