Mumbai, April 28 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has officially approved the proposal to rename the British-era King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital.

Following a proposal by State Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, the civic commissioner has given the technical and administrative go-ahead to rename the institution as 'Kaushalya Shreshtha Eklavya Smarak Hospital.'In a strategic move to maintain the hospital's long-standing identity, the new name-Kaushalya Shreshtha Eklavya Memorial (Smarak) Hospital-has been carefully chosen to ensure that the iconic acronym 'KEM' remains unchanged.

Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha submitted the request to the Mayor and the Health Committee on March 29, 2026.
