Bengaluru, July 11 -- Escalating its confrontation with the Karnataka government over the issuance of Permanent Residential Certificates (PRCs), the BJP on Saturday announced that it would challenge the move in court and petition the Governor, alleging that the Congress government was encroaching upon the Centre's exclusive constitutional authority over citizenship.

State BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa said the party would convene a meeting of its legal team shortly to examine the constitutional validity of the PRC and explore legal remedies against what he described as an "unconstitutional and illogical" exercise.
