Mumbai, May 6 -- In a controversial move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch a "Clean Sweep" campaign across Maharashtra to identify and remove alleged bogus voters from electoral rolls.
The BJP has already announced a structured programme to ensure strict implementation of the SIR exercise. During a training camp held in Mumbai, party leaders issued detailed instructions to office-bearers regarding the campaign and its execution, BJP sources said at a gathering here on Wednesday.
Political observers have, however, pointed out that the SIR exercise is conducted by the Election Commission of India.
