Shimla, May 31 -- BJP registered a sweeping victory in three of the four Municipal Corporations of Himachal Pradesh, capturing Mandi, Dharamshala and Solan, while the ruling Congress managed to retain Palampur in the civic elections whose results were declared on Sunday.

The outcome is being viewed as a significant political contest between the ruling Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the opposition BJP ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

The elections to the four Municipal Corporations were held on party symbols, unlike the recently concluded Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat polls.
