Kolkata, May 4 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stormed ahead in the West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 41 seats and leading in 164 others to take its potential tally to 205-well past the two-thirds majority mark in the 294-member assembly.

In contrast, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has managed to win only 15 seats and is leading in 67, taking its total to 82. The Congress, Left Front and its allies, and AJUP have secured two seats each in the early trends.

The sweeping leads reflect a significant shift in vote share compared to the 2021 Assembly polls.

According to Election Commission data, the BJP's vote share has risen sharply to 45.56 per cent-an increase of 7.46 percentage points from its earlier 38.15 per cent.
