Pune, Aug. 22 -- Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole on Saturday alleged that the BJP was "afraid" of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and was therefore opposing his programmes across the country.

He claimed that the BJP had realised that it was losing public support and was making "last-ditch efforts" to retain power.

Speaking about the recent controversy surrounding Rahul Gandhi's programme in Pune, Patole said the alleged assault on NSUI students was an indication of the BJP's fear of the Congress leader.

He alleged that attempts were being made to disrupt Rahul Gandhi's programmes and create controversy around them.
