Dimapur, May 4 -- BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen on Monday emerged winner in the by-election to 28 Koridang (ST) assembly constituency in Mokokchung district, defeating his nearest rival, Independent candidate Maj (rtd) Toshikaba by a margin of 3,123 votes.
Imchen polled 7,317 votes, while Toshikaba secured 4,194 votes.
After the declaration of the result, Imchen received the certificate of election from Mokokchung returning officer Nockpai Konyak at the Mokokchung DC office.
Altogether six candidates were in the fray.
Independent candidate Imliwapang secured 3,633 votes, National People's Party's I Abenjang polled 3,219 votes, Independent candidate Imchatoba Imchen got 147 votes and Congress's T Chalukumba Ao polled 144 votes.
