Patna, May 4 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Surya Kumar Sharma, popularly known as Arvind Sharma has been elected unopposed to a seat in the Bihar Legislative Council.
Sharma, being the lone candidate who had filed his nomination for the by-election to a seat that fell vacant following election of former MLC to the state assembly, and with the deadline for withdrawal of nominations passing without any contest, the Returning Officer formally declared Sharma as elected.
Sharma was subsequently handed over the certificate of victory.
The bypoll has been necessitated after senior BJP leader Mangal Pandey vacated his Legislative Council seat following his election as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Siwan.
