Nagpur, March 4 -- In a key move ahead of the biennial Rajya Sabha elections, the BJP on Wednesday nominated former Nagpur mayor Mayatai Chintaman Ivnate as one of its candidates from Maharashtra.
Shortly after the announcement, Ivnate left for Mumbai to complete the formalities related to her nomination.
A veteran leader from Nagpur, she has played an active organisational role within the party at both city and state levels for several years.
Ivnate previously served as Mayor of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation between December 2007 and December 2009.
Over time, she has been elected multiple times as a corporator and most recently secured victory from Ward No. 12 in the 2026 civic polls.
