Guwahati, May 4 -- The ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has established a huge lead over the Congress-headed Asom Sonmilito Morcha (ASM) in the initial counting trends for the Assam Assembly elections on Monday.

With trends from 97 of the state's 126 Assembly constituencies available, the NDA was in the pole position in 73 seats, while the ASM candidates were leading in 23 constituencies. A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) nominee was ahead of his rivals in one seat/Among NDA constituents, the BJP on its own has left behind its rivals in 58 constituencies. Its alliance partners, Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), were leading in 8 and 7 seats respectively.
