Kolkata, May 18 -- The newly formed BJP government in West Bengal on Monday announced a series of welfare measures for women, making it clear that the administration is keen to consolidate support among the state's female population through a set of high-impact social schemes.
In one of the biggest announcements made after assuming power, the government declared that women would be able to travel free of cost in all state-run buses from June 1.
The decision was taken at the second cabinet meeting of the new government held at Nabanna under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
