Lucknow, Sept. 13 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of acting arbitrarily and failing to uphold the law and the Constitution.

"As long as the BJP government remains in power, the law will not be followed. The government is acting arbitrarily. The police have free rein. The High Court's decision regarding the imposition of the Goonda Act is extremely serious. The BJP government is against the Constitution and democracy. It is abusing power," he alleged while speaking to reporters here.

Yadav accused the government of misusing the law and filing false cases to harass people, as well as using its power to target and defame opposition leaders.
