Bengaluru, April 17 -- Amid an intensifying political debate over delimitation, the Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday asserted that southern states "will not lose a single seat", accusing the Congress of spreading a "fear narrative" to mislead the public.

Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka said concerns being raised by Congress leaders were unfounded, maintaining that the proposed delimitation exercise would, in fact, increase representation for southern states.

"Not a single seat will be reduced in the South. On the contrary, the number will go up," Ashoka told reporters, adding that Karnataka's Lok Sabha strength is expected to rise from 28 to 42 seats under the proposed expansion.
