Bengaluru, June 20 -- The Mekedatu dispute took a political turn on Saturday with Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa accusing the Congress of being caught between its commitments in Karnataka and its alliance compulsions in Tamil Nadu following the neighbouring state's resolution opposing the project.

Reacting to the Tamil Nadu Assembly's resolution against the proposed Mekedatu balancing reservoir and drinking water project, Vijayendra alleged that the Congress was adopting contradictory positions on a matter concerning Karnataka's water rights.
