Bhubaneswar, May 30 -- The opposition Biju Janata Dal today threatened to intensify its statewide agitation over alleged irregularities in Rabi paddy procurement, accusing the BJP government in Odisha of pushing farmers into severe distress through what it termed a "failed and anti-farmer" procurement system.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar, former minister and BJD vice-president Sanjay Kumar Das Burma and party MLA and general secretary Goutam Buddha Das alleged that large-scale irregularities in farmer registration, token distribution and paddy procurement have triggered widespread resentment among farmers across the state.
