Bhubaneswar, May 20 -- The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday accused the BJP government in Odisha of failing to fulfil its poll promises to farmers, alleging that problems relating to paddy procurement, token generation and mandi operations were triggering widespread discontent among cultivators across the state.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, former minister and BJD vice-president Sanjay Kumar Das Burma and party MLA as well as senior general secretary Byomakesh Ray alleged that farmers were being forced to stage protests and road blockades to secure their rights.
