Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9 -- The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday urged President Droupadi Murmu to intervene over provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, arguing that the legislation could seriously undermine Odisha's constitutional rights and financial interests in its mineral resources.
In a memorandum submitted through Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati on Wednesday, the BJD claimed that the amendment could deprive the State of substantial mining-related revenue, including arrears and future receipts recognised following a landmark Supreme Court judgment.
