Bhubaneswar, April 22 -- The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the identification of nearly 9.8 lakh voters for deletion from electoral rolls in Odisha, urging the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of their democratic rights.

A delegation of BJD leaders submitted a memorandum to the CEO, calling for a foolproof mechanism to safeguard the rights of eligible voters ahead of the preparatory exercise for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.

The party warned that the development has triggered apprehensions of large-scale disenfranchisement.
