Bhubaneswar, Aug. 20 -- The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has accused the Odisha Government of completely failing to assess and manage the severe flood situation in Balasore district caused by incessant rainfall and overflowing rivers.
The party alleged that even two weeks after the floods, relief materials had not reached people in several affected areas. Many families whose houses were damaged after floodwaters entered their homes had not even received polythene sheets, it claimed.
In some areas, the administration appeared to have discharged its responsibility by providing affected people with only a handful of flattened rice (chuda), the BJD alleged.
