Kolkata, Aug. 22 -- Veteran CPI(M) leader and Left Front chairman Biman Basu has undergone a pacemaker implantation at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, a top party leader said on Saturday.

Basu has been admitted to the premier hospital for the past three days after being admitted with a cardiac condition.

The veteran leader is recovering after the implant, CPI(M) state secretary Mohammed Salim said.

The party was in regular touch with the doctors treating Basu. "The doctors have informed us that he is gradually recovering. There is no reason for concern at present," Salim said.
