Kolkata, April 21 -- In an effort to make the election in West Bengal free from any kind of threat or intimidation, fair and transparent, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, has imposed strict restrictions on the use of motorcycles.

In a notification issued by the commission on April 20, the commission made it clear that no motorcycle rallies will be allowed from 48 hours before the polling day.

Sources in the commission said that it had been noticed that the political parties conduct bike rallies after the campaigning ends, but in many cases, it has been found that the voters are threatened in the pretext of rallies.
