Patna, April 25 -- In a significant step towards sustainable infrastructure development, the Bihar government has decided to use silt (de-silted material) from rivers, canals, ponds, and other water bodies for road construction.

Road Construction Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal said here today that the initiative aims to protect fertile agricultural land from erosion while enhancing the storage capacity of water bodies. He said the process of utilising silt in several road projects has already begun.

Pal said that the engineers have been directed to coordinate at the district level for the effective use of de-silted materials. He also instructed that the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) be obtained from the Water Resources Department...
