Patna, May 27 -- The famous "Doodhiya Maldah" mango of Digha in Patna relished for its distinctive sweetness, aroma and milky hue is on the verge of securing a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, a move expected to give the rare variety national and global recognition.

The initiative is being spearheaded by researchers at Bihar Agricultural University through its agricultural research institute in Mithapur, Patna, where efforts are underway to conserve and propagate the variety. Researchers associated with it say the GI application process is nearly 95 percent complete, and approval is likely within the next one to two months.
