Patna, June 22 -- Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday directed officials to prepare a special action plan to develop the Champaran region into a major sugarcane production hub and accelerate the revival of the state's sugar industry.

Chairing a review meeting of the Sugarcane Industry Department, the Chief Minister asked officials to expedite efforts to revive nine closed sugar mills and facilitate the establishment of 25 new sugar mills across the state.

He directed the department to attract maximum investment under the Bihar Sugar Industry Promotion Policy-2026 and prepare an integrated roadmap to increase sugarcane productivity, strengthen the sugar industry and enhance farmers' income.
