Patna, June 16 -- : Bihar has emerged as the country's second-largest contributor in financial inclusion, with deposits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) surpassing Rs 30,000 crore.
According to data released by the Finance Ministry, Bihar has 6.87 crore Jan Dhan accounts, the second-highest in the country after the state of Uttar Pradesh, which has 10.32 crore accounts with deposits of nearly Rs 64,000 crore.
At the national level, total deposits under PMJDY crossed Rs 3.09 lakh crore by April this year, while the total number of accounts reached 58.06 crore. The figures indicate that Jan Dhan accounts are no longer merely zero-balance accounts but are increasingly being used as active savings accounts.
