Patna, May 13 -- The Bihar Cabinet on Wednesday approved a hike in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners and cleared 18 significant proposals spanning infrastructure, policing, higher education and administration.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary at the state secretariat, was the first after the recent expansion of the council of ministers and was attended by all 34 ministers.

The Cabinet approved an increase in DA under various pay commissions with effect from January 1 this year. The DA under the Sixth Pay Commission has been raised from 257 per cent to 262 per cent.
