Patna, Sept. 29 -- The Gandak River has risen sharply in Bihar following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Nepal, creating a serious flood situation in several districts.
The Bihar government has deployed four special teams of engineers from the Water Resources Department to intensify flood-fighting and restoration operations.
According to the Water Resources Department, the Gandak recorded an unprecedented rise at the Bagaha gauge after 543,500 cusecs of water was released from the Valmikinagar barrage on September 28. The river level at Bagaha reached 91.25 metres, surpassing the previous record of 90.90 metres recorded in 2024 by 0.35 metres.
