New Delhi, Aug. 31 -- Bihar and Jharkhand on Monday signed a long-awaited Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for sharing the waters of the Sone River, bringing an end to a nearly 25-year-old dispute between the two neighbouring states.
The agreement was signed in the presence of union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah and is expected to improve the availability of water for irrigation and drinking purposes across large parts of Bihar and Jharkhand.
The signing ceremony was attended by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, union Home Secretary and senior officials from the Centre and the two states.
