Ramanagara (Karnataka), July 13 -- A fresh flashpoint erupted in Karnataka's politically sensitive Bidadi township row on Monday as agitating farmers, led by women, forced officials to halt a Joint Measurement Committee (JMC) survey, gheraoed their vehicle and allegedly struck it with brooms, signalling an escalation in resistance to the proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT) project.
The confrontation unfolded at Mandalahalli village when revenue officials arrived to conduct the land survey. Farmers, who have been opposing the proposed acquisition of agricultural land for the township, refused to allow the exercise, insisting that no survey would be permitted until the government withdrew the project.
