Thimphu, March 5 -- A widening mismatch between educational qualifications and industry demand is complicating Bhutan's national employment landscape, with the country's labour market grappling with deep-seated structural challenges, despite a robust 7.5 per cent GDP growth in 2024, according to the Himalayan kingdom's autonomous central bank.

The Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) in its Annual Report 2025 identifies three key barriers to employment: qualification mismatch, lack of experience and inadequate qualifications. Combined, these factors constitute 47.1 per cent of the total reasons for unemployment, Bhutan's National Newspaper, The Kuensel, reported.
