Bengaluru, Sept. 9 -- Bharat Ratna awardee and eminent scientist Prof C.N.R. Rao has been asked to establish his identity before election authorities after a mismatch in the spelling of his name was detected in Karnataka's electoral records during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The notice to the 92-year-old scientist has drawn attention to the scale of the electoral roll revision, as even the records of a nationally recognised public figure have come under scrutiny over discrepancies in legacy voter data.
Prof Rao has been asked to appear for a hearing and provide clarification to resolve the mismatch. The notice is part of the verification process and does not involve any allegation of wrongdoing against him.
