Patna, May 8 -- Bihar Urban Development and Housing minister Nitish Mishra on Friday said providing better basic infrastructure and civic amenities in urban local bodies across Bihar is the government's highest priority.

Nitish Mishra assumed charges during the day after which the department's Principal Secretary Vinay Kumar briefed him about the ongoing schemes and projects.

The minister reviewed various programmes and said Bihar's urban areas have witnessed rapid expansion in recent years, with the state's urbanisation level reaching nearly 17 per cent. He stressed that urban development must now move forward in a planned and farsighted manner to meet future needs effectively.
