Kolkata, April 29 -- Brisk largely peaceful polling marked the first four hours of the West Bengal Assembly elections phase two covering 142 constituencies on a rain-soaked Wednesday, as close to 40 per cent of the over 3.21 crore voters exercised their franchise notwithstanding isolated incidents.

Data shared by the Election Commission of India (ECI) gave the overall voter turnout as 39.97 per cent till 11 am.

The elections began at 7 am amidst great enthusiasm as voters cutting across age and social barrierslined up before the booth across seven administrative districts to participate in the biggest festival of democracy.
