Kolkata, May 26 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday announced that subsidised fish meals at Rs 5 per plate will be served at all 367 state-run canteens twice a week.
The state-run eateries, christened Maa canteens by former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, had been launched by the erstwhile Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in Bengal back in 2021. The canteens had been set up to provide meals to the poor and needy across the state. The meals were priced at Rs 5 per plate, but the menu comprised only rice, vegetable and boiled egg.
Adhikari was speaking after an administrative coordination meeting held in Nadia district's Kalyani.
