Kolkata, May 18 -- The state government on Monday terminated the West Bengal Medical Council membership of Trinamool Congress leader and former state minister Nirmal Majhi.

Majhi fought the recent state Assembly elections from Hooghly's Goghat constituency on a TMC ticket and lost to Bharatiya Janata Party's Prasanta Digar by 49,582 votes.

He was the erstwhile TMC MLA from the Uluberia North assembly constituency.

Majhi had been at the centre of several controversies over the past few years.
