Kolkata, Sept. 13 -- The West Bengal government has initiated a major crackdown on unauthorised and infrastructure-deficient madrasas across the state, with 252 institutions served notices for closure and nearly 100 others show-caused for allegedly operating in violation of prescribed norms. Another dimension has been added to the issue with reports of alleged infiltration by extremist elements in some of these institutions.
The action follows a statewide inspection aimed at assessing the approval status, infrastructure and functioning of madrasa institutions.
