Kolkata, March 15 -- : Just minutes before the announcement of the West Bengal Assembly election schedule, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday declared that the state government would begin disbursing long-pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears to its employees from March 2026.

The announcement came shortly before the Election Commission of India was scheduled to unveil the election timetable for West Bengal and four other states at a press conference at Delhi's Vigyan Bhavan at 4 pm.

Banerjee made the announcement through a post on social media, stating that the state's "Ma-Mati-Manush" government had fulfilled its commitment to employees and pensioners.
