Kolkata, June 3 -- The West Bengal Cabinet on Wednesday approved the transfer of 20 acres of government land in Jalpaiguri district to facilitate the Sevoke-Rangpo railway project, a key rail infrastructure scheme linking the state with Sikkim.
The land at Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri will be transferred to the forest department, which will subsequently hand it over for the railway project, government sources said.
Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, State Rural Development Minister Dilip Ghosh said the proposal had been placed before and cleared by the Cabinet as part of efforts to expedite infrastructure development in the region.
