Burdwan, May 31 -- The police arrested two former Trinamul Congress MLAs today in connection of alleged misappropriation of funds linked to government schemes, which triggered off sensation.
Bardhaman Dakshin MLA Khokon Das was arrested from Handi near Prayagraaj in Uttar Pradesh by a team of policemen from the Burdwan Police Station, the officials said.
Das, according to the district police, was wanted in a case of extortion, besides another pending charge of post-poll violence in 2021.
The arrest comes amid a series of recent police actions against public representatives in West Bengal over allegations related to extortion, violence, intimidation and misappropriation of fund linked to government schemes and distribution of materials.
